Wood burning fires

Hi guys

I have just realized that I keep saying guys when addressing everybody. This is a left over from living in the states as they always use this term so when I say guys I also mean you gals as well.

Yesterday was lovely sunny day so most went out walking, I happened to go down to the orchard and noticed that there was a plentiful supply of Raspberries so I told all our renters to go down and pick as many as they like. About 6 pm I was out shutting all the livestock in, so as the Fox would not get them and on walking back I noticed that all four chimneys were smoking away, the cozy smell of wood smoke filled the yard. There is nothing better than settling down to an evening beside a open log fire, so come and spend a few days at one of our Listed Heritage Cottages and enjoy life.

Sunny Saturday & Dug the dog

Its a beautiful sunny Saturday here in Carmathenshire. Wife is cooking a bit of roast beef, she has been out in the garden and picked all the veg and prepared it. I made her lay some brink pavers this morning and she has a spot of digging to do after she has cleared up from lunch. I made an excuse of having to do some important paperwork but in fact I been playing Sudoku on the computer as I do not like anything too physical myself.  Dug the dog has launched a new Dog Blog at http://dugthedug.blogspot.co.uk/ its all about dog stuff written by a dog. He has just found out he is being promoted to head of marketing so will be doing some special offers now and again.

Suggle up beside the fire

Well you guys we have had some pretty bad weather this year but that has not stopped our holidaymakers as there is always plenty to see and do here on the farm. At this time of the year our renters snuggle up beside the log fire every night watching the telly or reading a book, have a lazy breakfast, go for a walk, have lunch, have a snooze, a quick once around the track ready for tea. Then repeat the whole process the next day, to some it might sound boring but its a damn good way to relax and just switch off from all the pressures we have to deal with on a normal day. There is nothing like the smell and warmth of a roaring log fire so book in now for a few days holiday

Mid September

This time of the year we are harvesting our produce especially the apples and lots of raspberries so we are eating them every night for tea with clotted cream from Devon. The renters in our holiday cottages have been lighting up the fire in the evenings as they say its a special treat to have a real open fire burning away.
Barley Cottage, Meadow Cottage and Wheatsheaf Cottage all have some vacancies throughout October so why not pay us a visit for a few days.

The walks around the farm and surrounding areas are outstanding, what is a better idea is to take a trek out to our local pub and back again. Not only does it have good ale but also the food is pretty damn good also.

Wales for your holiday cottage

Wales. Sunrise on the estate.  Its a beautiful morning here on the farm with the sun shining, Dug the dog is doing his rounds barking at anything that moves. Spot the dog is relaxing, as for the rest of the livestock they are busy eating, I think the geese eat more grass than the sheep.

The grass is still growing so will have to get wife out to speed around on the mower, typical woman when it comes to driving, everybody and everything has to get out of the way as she will be going flat out. The other day while I was sunbathing while she was mowing and going so fast I saw one of my 2 year old Apple trees prostrate on the ground with the mower flying right over the top of it. Spot thinks it safer to actually ride on the mower with her but I am not so sure about that train of thought.

As its such a lovely day I intend to read my newspaper and relax somewhat I will get the wife to feed the livestock, cut the grass and unload a couple of lorries I have coming to day. The boxes are not too heavy so she should manage OK.

Wales Holiday Cottages, Dug the dog

Quite a few have asked if I had another photo that shows Dug the dog closer as he is difficult to spot so I have uploaded one with this blog, see Dug the dog's holiday cottage duties web page . Our daily walk to the top of the bank is a real treat as the views are tremendous  sometimes we take the river walk and this is equally lovely, hopefully we will be able to get a properly constructed track to make it easier to circumvent. If you take advantage of our great Autumn rates then you also will be able to enjoy these fabulous walks and views. To obtain a price just enter your dates onto the calander and the system will work out a price for you. we also have two gorgeous homes in Torquay Waterside House and Westwing Cottage

Wales Holiday Cottages, Bean time

Yes its runner bean time along with lots of other veg. from the garden, the grass is still growing and needs cutting sometimes twice a week. The rabbits, chicken, ducks and geese are enjoying life here on the farm, the rabbits sometimes manage to escape so our renters find them on their doorstep.
The chicken also enjoy a roam about in the yard but they do put themselves away at night before the fox comes around. More on the farm photos

All our renters enjoy the wonderful fresh eggs we supply them with and all notice the difference between real eggs and those they buy in the shops. There is nothing like real fresh produce.

Would like to get the ponds stocked with fish but have not been able to quite finish them but hopefully later on in the year we can get around to if.

Now the main season is nearly behind us why not come visit as we have some inexpensive vacancies available take a look at Barley Cottage for instance.

At Torquay Self Catering we still have a few vacancies leading up to Christmas. If you fancy a trip to the States then why not visit the lovely Anna Maria Island. For some great offers.

Wales Holiday Cottages & Dug the Dog

Its a great morning the sun has put in an appearance, the dogs want to be doing things so I took Dug the dog on the machine with me, he seems oblivious to the noise and the juddering and just sits there taking it all in. If I have to get out then he immediately grabs the drivers seat, then a fight occurs to see who can obtain procession. At the farm we are busy putting up fences so that Each Rental  has its own private garden.

At Torquay we still have a few vacancies leading up to Christmas. If you fancy a trip to the States then why not visit the lovely Anna Maria Island Florida

Wales Holiday Cottages & Bulls Eye

Just to let everyone know we now have a new comer to the family called Bulls Eye a lovely Shetland pony. Bulls Eye now joins our 2 pigs, 33 Ducks, 15 Geese, 30 Chickens along with 8 baby rabbits so there is plenty to see at the Estate. All the shrubs are out in bloom along with the May blossom, the grass is looking fresh and green and unfortunately is growing too fast so its needs cutting sometimes twice a week which is quite a task in itself as it amounts to nearly 3 acres. We still have a few Vacancies so come and join us either at the Estate in Wales or the English Rivera at Torquay

Its Sunday this morning stayed in bed longer than usual here on the Bwlch Tre Banau Estate Lit both of the inglenook fires, on at each end of the house, and settled down for breakfast on the huge comfortable sofa pulled up in front of the woodburner in the old kitchen. This is the oldest room in the house and it is also my favourite room for Sunday mornings. it is the original house on the Bwlch Tre Banau Estate. Stone built and dating from the 16th century, it has a massive 3 tier fireplace and a cathedral ceiling. Just settled down with a glass of home made blackcurrant juice made with fruit picked from down in the orchard and about to put a spoon in the porridge when Trevor, the neighbouring farmer from Tre Banau arrived, so quickly finished eating and put the kettle on for him. Trevor keeps us up to speed with the local news as he knows everyone and usually runs by on on his quad bike on Sunday morning for a yarn and a cuppa.

Wales for Scenery

Today I have been browsing through the internet and there is nothing like Wales for scenery so why not check out this site for your Holiday Cottage

Life in Wales

Its a beautiful day here on the Bwlchtrebanau Estate, the birds are singing, nest building and sitting on eggs so there will soon be hatchlings out trying to fly. Seeds planted in the garden are poking there noses up and last night we sneaked into the greenhouse and pinched a few new potatoes for dinner which I must say went down very well. Last night we got our 2 doe’s nesting boxes ready so hopefully we will soon have some little baby rabbits. The Goslings are now out running around in the field loving the freedom and the fresh grass. To see all these why not come stay for a few days and enjoy our lovely countryside, please see Wales Holiday Cottages
